Historic urban building on a street corner with retail stores, including Walgreens, under a blue sky.

San Francisco, CA

The Marker, operated by Kimpton Hotels, is a boutique property near Union Square in San Francisco. Stanton Architecture tackled a host of design challenges to expand the functionality of the 1908 historic building, including a complete remodel of the lobby and 200 guestrooms. The former double-height restaurant was also reconfigured for a lower ceiling, allowing for a new floor plate and guestrooms above.

Along the historic corner frontage, Stanton guided the addition of large, in-kind windows that restore order to the facade and bring abundant natural light into the revived public spaces.
