EAST BAY PROVISIONS

Oakland, CA

Stanton Architecture spearheaded the transformation of a former nail salon within the historic Claremont Hotel & Spa in Oakland, California, into a charming Old World cafe experience. Nestled in the hotel's lower carriage wing, this corner cafe welcomes guests with a transitional daily menu crafted by Executive Chef Arwi Odense.

The ambitious project involved a significant seismic retrofit to accommodate a traditional open show kitchen, complete with an imported German bread oven. In collaboration with Matt Winter Design, a Los Angeles-based interior design studio, Stanton Architecture paid homage to the building's original architecture and the rich history of this Class A1+ historic Oakland landmark.

The 36-seat cafe offers a range of furnishings, including fixed banquettes, family-style dining tables, and open merchandising. The adjacent carriage porch received a cosmetic refresh, providing additional seating and a welcoming entrance for guests arriving from the tennis courts and outdoor pool.  The cafe promises to be a sustaining convenience at this prominent East Bay institution.
